“Eureka” is an exceptional restaurant, which in addition to its catering function also plays an educational role. It is located 15 minutes walking distance from the very city centre of Gdynia, in the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park, next door to “Experyment” – the Gdynia equivalent to the London Science Museum, where children learn through great fun and playing a variety of games. This restaurant is the only venue in the Tri-City, and perhaps the only place in Poland, where we can enjoy delicious food surrounded by fossils that are millions of years old. Here you can see cephalopods, echinoderms, ammonites and even the 138 million-year-old imprint of a dinosaur’s paw, the predecessor of Tyrannosaurus rex. “Eureka” was born five years ago out of an idea to unite the passion of one of the co-owners to collect traces from the prehistoric past with the love of food. The specialty of the restaurant is international cuisine, but in the Chef’s own signature version.
The restaurant is located on two levels, it is spacious and despite the fact that it is housing a display of ancient fossils, it has a modern design. The interior is tasteful, with subdued colours. Bright walls, armchairs, the stone section of the floor and brown wood, i.e. a modern bar area, tables, and ceiling elements. An interesting feature of the decor is a fragment of a sandstone rock face, a re-construction of the white rock from the Polish Jurassic Highland or Polish Jura [Polish: Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska] with original fossils of sea creatures. Together with other prehistoric remains, it is supposed to make us reflect upon the legacy we will leave behind.
